Creating a wine label concept based on a theme is a solid approach. Such is the case with Demuerte Classic and it’s colourful Day of the Dead skull design. The wine is likely most popular at Halloween and during Day of the Dead celebrations. The latter truly is a celebration of departed souls. It is a time to rejoice without remorse.
Like many other icons, skulls have their fans. That general admiration plus the appreciation of the art style may sustain sales for this wine throughout the year.
Demuerte Classic is one of six wines from producer Winery On. All share the same design but vary in colour. Some are single colours. Classic is the most vibrant. Its colours, thermal engraved for maximum impact, pop from the matte black background.
I’m a bit surprised that the back label doesn’t focus more on the spirit of the wine. The front labels begs a story. Instead we get boring notes on the winemaking process. That’s not why most would buy this wine. This one is all about image.
The wine itself holds true to its day of celebration. It is lively and juicy with dark fruit flavours and a strong finish. If you’re looking for a wine to enjoy with those mid-autumn holidays, this one will not disappoint.
This label might not be for everyone. Are you attracted to or repulsed by skull imagery? Let me know in the comments below.
