Crazy Tropez Rosé

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

The rosé category continues to grow at a staggering rate. Especially in warm weather months. The selection is incredible. From the Old World and the New, winemakers from every wine-growing region in the world are producing rosé. From pale pink hues to tones so intense they rival mellow reds. This is crazy!

Actually, this is Crazy. Crazy Tropez Rosé to be exact. Like many other rosés, it’s blushing colour is pretty. While most of their competitors seek to emphasize that beauty with their packaging, Crazy breaks the mold. The glass bottle appears to be cracked all the way around save a window in the front. The wine name isn’t printed on that window. Rather it appears through the glass from the back. Yes, it’s crazy.

This bottle, its aesthetic, and name stand out in the sea of serenity that is rosé packaging. If the strategy is to crack perception, it succeeds. This isn’t Whispering Angel. It won’t challenge the major players for market share but it might beat many at a lower price point. It differentiates  itself which is a primary goal in marketing.

Given its bluster and air of irreverence, you might expect Crazy Tropez to be a New World wine. It is not. Surprisingly, it hails from France. Some listings suggest Provence. Technically, IGP Meditérranée. Like all the required information, that is somewhat hidden amongst the cracks.

The wine is typical for the south of France. Pale in colour with strawberry flavours and notes of pink grapefruit. There is some sweetness but it is balanced. Not a complex wine but enjoyable. Crack a bottle open for friends on a summer afternoon and watch their reactions.
