When you first see the Intrinsic label, where does it take you? Spain? Argentina? The raven-haired woman in the swirling red dress creates a Spanish vibe for me. How about Columbia? Not the country. The Columbia Valley, Washington state, by way of New York City. Let me explain.
Turns out the label artwork is by NYC street artist, ZIMER. If you live in a large urban city the swirling, overlapping, intersecting ribbons will be familiar to you. This is the art of alleys and the urban landscape. Kudos to the Intrinsic Wine Co. for supporting this artist.
There’s an extreme contrast in this piece of art between the black and white, photorealistic woman and graphic red dress. But it works beautifully. The moment is magical. A woman who dances like nobody’s watching. It resonates. Some would want to be her. Others to be her partner. This package is unabashedly seductive.
Technically, I love that the label wraps almost completely around the bottle. The dress spans its entire width. Give the video at the top another spin to truly appreciate it. There are also textures in the details of this label that enhance the tactile experience. The least noticeable thing is the branding. The word Intrinsic is extremely small. It doesn’t need to register when the image has so much power. There are no winemakers notes, fanciful phrasing of flavours or food pairings to be found on this label. Why bother? The sale is made from the shelf.
If ever there was a perfect match between label and wine experience, this is it. The wine is a bit restrained at first. It opens from sip to sip. The second glass is spectacular. Swirl for maximum effect.
Again. Where does this wine take you? Let me know in the comments below.
