This label for Ladies who Shoot their Lunch Shiraz isn’t new. It’s just an all-time favourite I haven’t seen around for a few years.
This is a bold concept. One that represents a way of life some might object to, regardless of who the hunter is. Yet it also celebrates the organic simplicity of the hunter-gatherer and portrays a woman confidently occupying a traditionally male role. This hunter is assured, capable, and unapologetic.
The label strikes an emotional chord, whether positive or negative. The producers understand that reaction and lean into it, aiming to forge a deeper connection with like-minded consumers. Their story, beautifully told on the back label, sets the tone perfectly. You can almost feel the morning chill and smell the campfire as you read:

“The haziness of a sky at daybreak; the bubbling of a pristine stream; the early morning sun lifting bush scents. Shallow breathing; silently stalking. Observing. Sudden flurries of action: trout breaking glassy rivers; startled birds bursting from cover; a dashing hare; a distant stag in dappled light.
The long walk home, exhausted; limbs aching; cold, wet, hungry. Open fire; cooking smells; a gradual return to warmth. That shower. Amongst friends; delicious food and a glass of wine.”
Those words vividly echo the image on the front label. The Lady, dressed in traditional green hunting attire, rifle in hand, surveys the landscape for her next meal, her loyal hound leading the way. Sunshine spills across the background, where a deer—lucky to have escaped notice—watches from the forest’s edge. Ducks take flight overhead.
I’m still puzzled by the blue trees. Perhaps green would have competed with the hunter’s outfit. The typography of the product name also invites scrutiny: the tall ascenders give the type a quirky rhythm, and the alternating capitalization feels deliberate, though its purpose eludes me.
If you enjoy the bold, generous style of Aussie Shiraz, this wine won’t disappoint. It’s packed with dark red fruit flavours and finishes with a lively spice. Of course, the brand chooses to express it a little differently:
“Ladies who Shoot their Lunch has been blended to complement real food with wines of striking colour, elevated aromas, pristine fruit and a finish to persist with the wildest flavours.”
No specific pairing is suggested, but wild game would seem the natural choice.
Ladies who Shoot their Lunch is more than a label. It’s an image, a story, and an expression of strength and confidence. It won’t appeal to everyone, but those who connect with it will likely love it.
