Rede Red Blend

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

Overheard. “This says bondage to me.” And just like that, a connection happens and a purchase is made. Fifty shades of wine?

I can’t say that reference occurred to me. This strapping label is just different than any other. There is a brand basis for the die-cut, diamond-based lattice pattern. The logo for Quita da Rede is diamond-shaped. Whether or not that’s the inspiration here is just a guess.

From a production standpoint, there’s much to admire about this label. In addition to the cutouts, the gold accents are foil-stamped and the entire label background is textured in a tiny diamond pattern. It almost feels like leather. Hmm.

Unfortunately, that seems to be where the attention to detail and differentiation ends. The back label is entirely typical. Grapes, aging, broad food pairing. The usual. The capsule is also a disappointment. This could have been a natural extension of the lattice pattern in black and gold. An opportunity lost.

As for the wine, pour the glasses and light the candles. This wine is dark, rich, full-bodied, and sensuously spicy. Ties in well with the label.

So, are you into…this label? Let me know in the comments below.
