The Vilarnau Cava packaging transports me back to Barcelona. The Trencadis pattern of the bottle wrap reflects the work of Antoni Gaudi that clads architectural surfaces throughout the city. A feeling of celebration overwhelms before you even pop the cork.
In contrast to the colourful wrap, the label and neck foil are proclamations of stately elegance. The Vilarnau family are Spanish nobility. Their crest is an interesting piece of design in itself. The modern V with its modest serifs, fronts an intricate Art Nouveau letter A. Perhaps an acknowledgement that Vilarnau is a contraction of Vila Arnau. The diagonal metallic stripes in steely blues on the capsule enhance the perception of royalty. One more thing. Texture! Look at the level of texture and finish. With every great design decision they have looked for a way to raise the bar even higher.
I’m always impressed by producers that maximize branding opportunities. Doing so communicates pride and an attention to detail that extends to every element in the creation of their product. This is evident in the cork and cap of The Vilarnau Cava.
Superb packaging creates positive anticipation. You just know as you pour this wine and watch the release of it’s fine bubbles that this will be an exquisite experience. The flavours of apple and lemon quench your thirst and linger through a crisp, dry finish.
The price of this wine is extremely modest for what it delivers and the impact the packaging creates. Enjoy casually or impress your guests at a celebration.
