Côte des Roses Rosé

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

It is arguably the most brilliant bottle design in wine packaging. Others may be more ornate and possibly prettier, but the rose cut into the glass at the bottom of the Gérard Bertrand Côte des Roses Rosé is genius. Even if you have to turn the bottle upside down to see it.

Not everyone does see it. But those who do are happy and willing to share their discovery. Being in the know is precious. How many people purchase the wine simply to divulge its secret to others?

The glass rose may not be immediately obvious but the rose branding is present in other aspects of the packaging including the product name, which swaps the ô in Côte with a pink bloom. The same bloom repeats as a metallic pink sticker on the neck of the bottle. It’s also pressed into a silver sticker on top of the enclosure.

The bottle is tall and elongated. The label is rightly small to maximize the expression of the soft pink wine. Transporting the onlooker to the south of France.

The bottle may be a little gimmicky but the wine stands on its own. It is bright and fragrant with sumptuous red berry flavours. If you enjoy rosé in the Provence style, this one is for you.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. A perfect time to share wine, a rose, and a secret.
