Velenosi Pecorino

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

Like ripples in a pond the Velenosi Pecorino wine label captures movement and serenity at a single glance. Waves of colour and metallic shimmer seem to undulate around the bottle like sunlight refracted through water. Look closer, and you’ll find a vibrant orange koi swimming among the curves. There is a freshness, vitality, and flow to the visual that provides a perfect prelude to the wine.

The design is both playful and precise. The overlapping waves, in tones of teal, gold, and white, are meticulously balanced. Geometric yet organic, decorative yet restrained. The sheen of the foil and clever die cuts add depth and tactility. It’s a label that rewards closer inspection, revealing layers of craftsmanship beneath its cheerful surface.

Typography is purposefully understated. The Velenosi name sits confidently at the top, letterspaced and modern, while the designation and varietal identity anchor the bottom with quiet dignity. Together, they frame the artwork like the top and bottom of a fine art print. The illustration alone tells the story.

It’s refreshing to see an Italian white that doesn’t rely on the expected rural or coastal clichés. Instead, the design translates the essence of place and the liveliness of the grape into pure visual abstraction. The result is both sophisticated and joyful, a label that feels as crisp and vibrant as the wine inside.

Pecorino is a personal favourite. This one is dry and lively with peach, orange and grapefruit. Pairs perfectly with a label that swims beautifully against the current.
