La Vendimia Red

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

This label has been a personal favourite for many years. Its appeal is beyond analysis. There’s just something happy about it. I’m not sure if the artwork is supposed to be a vine or a tree. It doesn’t really matter. The colourful circles, be they grapes or other fruit are expressively playful. They are like balloons on a string buoyed by the breeze.

The rest of the label is a statement of minimalism and confidence. LA VENDIMIA in a bold, letter-spaced sans serif is no larger than required to identify the product. Even less pronounced is the Rioja designation. The stacked vintage year in the upper left corner is interesting with its enlarged last digit. It has been set this way since 2011 as far as I’m aware. Will it be the same through the next decade?

The back label is unremarkable. Just the facts. It is real deal Rioja to be sure and weighs in with a hefty abv. The wine is both full-bodied and vibrant the rich flavours of dark fruit. It’s also consistent from vintage to vintage. I wouldn’t buy this wine repeatedly for the label alone.

So, is it just me? Does this label connect with you? Let me know in the comments below.
