One Stone Cabernet Sauvignon

Daryl Woods Publisher/Reviewer

At first glance, the One Stone Cabernet Sauvignon label is quite lovely. A closer look and deeper dive into the brand reveals so much more.

The name One Stone references a quote on the back label. “The woman who moves a mountain starts with a single stone.” This wine is a tribute to those women.

The front label image is beyond beautiful. The woman portrayed is elegant and poised. Her shoulders are square. Her posture erect. She stares at the mountains in the background as if deciding which one to move next. We can’t see her face. By looking away she defies identity. More symbol than individual. The embodiment of women who move mountains.

This powerful piece of art deserves credit. It is the creation of Audrey Jackson—acknowledged on the label—an aspiring local artist from the Paso Robles area. She is further recognized on the brand website.

What brings the artwork on this label to life is the finishing. Metallic bronze tones wash the waves of the woman’s dress. Somehow maintaining the essence of brush strokes. The colours shimmer as you turn the bottle in the light. The fine black lines that define the mountains, and the woman’s figure and hair are given a subtle pop of gloss. The moon, “which casts a guiding light” also gets the metallic treatment.

Is there more to this story? Yes. One Stone is a cause marketing effort that contributes to the Dream Big Darling organization. A nonprofit group that seeks to advance the careers of woman in the wine and spirits industry.

The lofty ideals of this brand make for a feel good purchase. But it’s likely the gorgeous label will make the sale. The wine is its equal. It is superb. Loads of red fruit and surprising vibrancy for a Cali Cab.
