The branding of this wine defies description. It also defies visibility. Look closely and you might notice a glossy circle with a stylish letter G knocked out. That’s the only clue you get to this wine’s identity on the front label. The label will get your attention, however. So trendy with its waves of pink and purple gradients. But what is this wine? Does the absence of information compel you to pick it up from the shelf?
This is Teusner The G Grenache. That’s how the wine is catalogued anyway. Even the back label doesn’t specifically piece the name together. In the words of winemaker Kym Teusner, “Grenache. The unsung hero of the Barossa. The hidden Gem. Almost a secret. But once the G is discovered, it can never be forgotten.” In addition to this quote, there is the Teusner Wines seal, and the vintage, location, and grape varietal information. The latter is set in fairly large, bold type. But if you had this bottle, and wanted to search it online for reviews or availability, what name would you use based on the information at hand?
If intrigue and the pretty packaging (including that killer capsule) were enough to persuade your purchase, you may well want to search for more. The G is a magical marriage of Grenache and the Barossa Valley. It is simultaneously generous and elegant. Very well-balanced.
Tuesner is a righteous, renegade winery built by beer buddies. Pictures of the partners and staff on their website proudly present them with bottles of brew. It is said that it takes a lot of beer to make wine. Clearly true here.
